How Much Do Dental Implants Cost

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost? Everything You Need to Know

Tooth loss is common. In fact, according to research, more than 120 million Americans are missing at least one tooth. This could be due to natural wear/tear, tooth decay, poor oral hygiene habits, and more. Missing teeth can lead to a variety of other oral, mental/emotional, and overall health issues.

However, the team at Mathew Dental Group wants to make sure that you know that you do have options. One of the most common solutions is dental implants. The biggest hurdle for our patients is the cost.

Dental implants are the “gold standard” in tooth restoration. Therefore, this is one of the most expensive tooth restoration options. However, it is essential to note that the benefits far outweigh the cost. One of the major benefits is that they look, feel, and function more like natural teeth than other tooth restoration solutions.

In this article, we’ll explain the cost of the single implant and full-mouth dental implants, along with the various factors involved in determining the cost of implants.

How Much is a Single-Tooth Dental Implant?

The cost of a single dental implant starts at around $3,500 and goes up to around $6,700 for the implant and the surgical placement.

How Much Do Full Dental Implants Cost?

The cost of full-mouth dental implants ranges from a low of around $43,000 to a high of around $56,000. Again, this includes the implant, crown, and surgical placement.

Factors That Affect a Dental Implants Cost

There are several factors involved in determining the cost of dental implants.

Experience of Dentist

Placing dental implants requires specialized training. Therefore, a general dentist typically does not complete this procedure. You will need a specialist that has additional training beyond dental school. This automatically means you will pay more.

In addition, the experience of the dentist is one of the major factors involved in determining the cost of dental implants. A dentist with more experience is going to cost you more than a dentist that is just starting out.

Materials

Most of the time, dental implants are made of a titanium rod (the implant) and a porcelain crown. Implants are made of titanium because it is biocompatible, and most people don’t have any problems with them.

That being said, there are some people who have an allergy to the other metals that are used in titanium implants. In this case, it becomes necessary to choose a zirconia implant, which is much more expensive than titanium.

Location of your missing teeth

The location of the missing teeth may also play a factor in the cost of the procedure. In many cases, due to the complexity of placement and the fact that there is less jawbone surface to work with, front teeth often cost more than back.

Preliminary/Additional procedures

In order to qualify for dental implants, you must have adequate bone density. If not, you may require bone grafting procedures. If bone grafting is required on the upper arch, you may also need a sinus lift to create room for the bone graft. This will be an additional charge beyond the cost of the implants.

The cost of bone grafting varies based on the type of bone used. The bone can be sourced from the patient or from a cow or cadaver- or it may be synthetic.

If you have some natural teeth remaining, we will do whatever we can to save them- but in some cases, this isn’t possible. At this point, extraction becomes necessary. This will also be an additional charge.

X-rays and other imaging may also be an additional charge and, if you require sedation, that will be an additional charge as well.

Laboratory

Some dental offices have the ability to fabricate crowns in-house. This can help reduce the cost of dental implants somewhat. However, most offices must send the information to an external lab. This doesn’t just impact the cost of the implant but also the time required to complete the procedure.

Sedation

Mathew Dental Group offers local anesthesia as part of the base package for dental implants. However, if you require sedation such as nitrous oxide or oral/IV sedation, that is not part of the base price. The primary reason these are more expensive is to cover the cost of the medication and the additional staff.

Location of Clinic

The location of the clinic often has a lot to do with the cost of dental implants. A clinic located in a big city will charge more than one located outside of town in a more rural area.

Does Insurance Cover Dental Implants?

There are some dental insurance providers that classify dental implants as a restorative procedure and will cover a portion of treatment. On the other hand, some dental insurance providers classify it as a cosmetic procedure and will not cover it at all. The friendly office staff at Mathew Dental Group will work with your provider to determine your coverage.

If you do not have dental insurance or if your insurance does not adequately cover the procedure, we do offer financing options.

Why are Dental Implants a Worthy Investment?

There is no denying that dental implants are a major investment. However, they are worth it because of the benefits they offer over other tooth restoration solutions. A few of these benefits are as follows:

  • Long-lasting/permanent
  • Looks, feels, and functions naturally
  • Does not require special care/maintenance
  • Prevents jawbone loss
  • Preserves facial shape
  • Keeps neighboring teeth in place

Conclusion

Dental implants are the “gold standard” in tooth restoration. Therefore, this is one of the most expensive options. However, as you can see, the benefits far outweigh the cost.
