When you meet someone for the first time, the very first thing they are going to notice is your smile. Unfortunately, most people would agree that, given the chance, they would alter their smile. For many people, it’s something as simple as teeth whitening. White teeth make you look younger and indicate to the world that you are concerned about your appearance, down to the little details.

Matthew Dental Group in Smithtown offers the KOR whitening procedure, which provides long-lasting results. In this article, we explain more about the causes of tooth discoloration, as well as the KOR whitening procedure.

Why Do You Need Teeth Whitening?

Since your smile is the first thing people will notice about you, most people choose to undergo teeth whitening when they need to put their best foot forward, such as:

A special occasion such as a wedding or prom. They want to look their best and know that discolored teeth can detract from their looks.
A job interview because white teeth can make you appear more professional and increase your chances of getting the job.
Many of our patients at Matthew Dental Group choose to undergo teeth whitening procedures to boost their own self-confidence.

Is my teen responsible enough?

KOR Whitening is a professional, combination procedure that uses both in-office and at-home treatments. The peroxide-based gel minimizes discoloration and removes stains, creating a brighter, whiter smile.

Depending on the severity of your tooth stains, you may require at-home treatments for 2 to 8 weeks, followed by an in-office session for best results.
There are two things that make this procedure different than the rest:

Many patients agree that this system creates much more dramatic, longer-lasting results than other teeth whitening systems.

KOR Whitening Procedure

Every procedure at Matthew Dental Group, including teeth whitening, starts with a consultation appointment. We will determine the severity and cause of your teeth stains to determine if you qualify for treatment. If so, we will mold a sealing tray to fit your teeth to avoid leakage and prevent saliva from getting into the trays, diluting the gel.
There are four options, depending on the type and severity of your stains:

KOR Home

In-home system involving 2 weeks of daily application following the initial tray-fitting appointment. In some cases, the gel must be kept on the teeth overnight.

KOR Max

Adds an in-office treatment to the system above. The gel used in the in-office treatment is “supercharged” because it blends three ingredients to remove stains.

KOR Ultra

Starts with an in-office treatment, then requires 3 to 4 weeks of at-home overnight treatments, and a final in-office treatment. This is the best option for patients who have severe staining.

KOR Ulta-T

This is designed for patients with staining from tetracycline, which can be challenging to remove. This starts with an in-office treatment, followed by 6 to 8 weeks of at-home overnight treatments, and finishes with a final in-office treatment.
The final results depend on which system you use and your in-office appointments. You should see some changes after each step of the process.
